Filing a Motion for Minor and Major Cases


The defendant must appear at the Special Services Department of the Traffic Division/1st Municipal District to file motions for minor and major offenses.  Special Services Department is located in Room LL01 of the Richard J. Daley Center. The counter clerk provides the petition for the defendant to complete for both minor and major offenses.  A petition must be completed by the defendant in order for his or her case to be heard in court.

All motions for minor cases must be filed in person, beginning at 8:00 a.m. on a first- come and first-serve basis.  The first 60 defendants are scheduled for the 9:00 a.m. motion call located in Room, LL04 of the Richard J. Daley Center.  Minor cases are heard the same day the petition is filed.  Listed below are the court orders that require a fee:

Ex parte Judgment-$45
Failure to Appear/Comply-$50
Judgement Bond Forfeiture Executed (JBFX)-$75
Final Order-$80

All motions for major cases must be filed in person.  The defendant is scheduled for the upcoming court call located in the same room where the case was initially assigned.   Major cases are heard the same day the petition is filed.  Listed below are the court orders that require a fee:
