(CHICAGO, July 20, 2012) — The Honorable Dorothy Brown, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, today announced that in keeping in step with the zero tolerance policy for criminal misconduct in the Clerk’s Office, action was taken against an employee.

Recently, Clerk Brown’s Inspector General’s Office received information accusing an employee of allegedly tampering with court files. The employee is Jeannette Neibauer of the Clerk’s Office Law Division. Upon receiving evidence of this accusation, Clerk Brown immediately contacted the Cook County Sheriff’s Office who conducted an investigation. Based on that investigation and the overwhelming evidence, the employee was arrested and charged with official misconduct and tampering with court files.

“As a sworn officer of the court who is charged with the safekeeping of court records, I’m deeply disappointed in any employee's illegal actions,” said Clerk Brown. “Our job here is to serve the public with the utmost integrity. I want to reiterate my policy and to serve notice to all, that I will not tolerate any criminal misconduct in the Clerk’s Office.”

These charges will be pursued to the full extent of the law.
