(CHICAGO) Honorable Dorothy Brown, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, announced that the Clerk’s Office will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 30, and Thursday, Jan. 31, following an order by Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans that the Circuit Court of Cook County will be closed “due to the anticipated historic cold temperatures for our area.”

In a press release, Chief Judge Evans explained, “This means that – with the exception of bail hearings and certain pretrial matters for in-custody defendants at the Leighton Criminal Court Building in Chicago and juvenile detention hearings at the Juvenile Center in Chicago – there will be no court in session on Wednesday and Thursday in any Cook County courthouse. All cases set for Wednesday and Thursday will be rescheduled.”

Clerk Brown said that the Clerk’s Office’s eFiling system will continue to function as usual for court business days. Documents electronically filed on Jan. 30 between 12:00 a.m. – 11:59 p.m. shall be deemed filed Jan. 30, and documents filed on Jan. 31 between 12:00 a.m. – 11:59 p.m. shall be deemed filed Jan. 31.

The courts and the Clerk’s Office are expected to resume regular operations on Friday, Feb. 1, 8:30 a.m.
