e-Citation

As a part of Clerk Spyropoulos’s efforts to modernize the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Clerk Spyropoulos has launched an e-Citation pilot program. After being discussed for nearly a decade, Clerk Spyropoulos has made e-Citation a priority for Cook County residents.

What does e-Citation mean?

e-Citation aims to reduce the wait time between receiving a traffic citation and being able to make payment.
Under e-Citation, the ticket is visible within 24-48 hours, instead of the 7-10 days it previously took.

What Qualifies Under e-Citation?

e-Citation does not apply to camera or parking violations, however it does apply to the following:

  • Failure to stop at a stop sign.
  • Disobey solid red signal.
  • Failure to wear a seat belt.
  • No valid state registration.
  • Operating an uninsured vehicle.
  • Failure to produce a driver’s license.
  • Speeding 1-25 miles over the posted limit.
  • Speeding 1-25 miles over in a construction zone.
  • Speeding 1-25 miles over in a school zone.

FAQs

e-Citation cuts down on handwritten and physically delivered citations for moving traffic violations.
Before e-Citation: officer writes ticket → paper ticket delivered to us → clerk retypes every field → case opened days later.
After e-Citation: officer issues ticket electronically → ticket + data sent securely → citation enters system prefilled→ clerk reviews, validates, opens case.

With e-Citation, citations now appear in the system within 24-48 hours of receipt. Meaning you can now pay or respond to your citation sooner. There will now be fewer data entry errors on citations and less confusion about when a ticket is available, and you will make fewer unnecessary trips to court locations.

Instead of relying on paper tickets that must be physically delivered and manually typed into the system, e-
    Citation uses secure electronic transmission.

On this page, click the button at the top or bottom to navigate to the payment portal. From there, click on the district in which you received your citation. Ensure you have your citation number to type into the portal, and from there, you will be able to respond to your citation.
